Coalition member launches innovative new university qualification in young men’s mentoring

The Sports Students as Mentors (for boys and young men) university qualification, established by boys’ education charity and Coalition member, Mengage, will launch at the University of Gloucestershire on December 4th.

The project – SSaMs for short – has taken the Mengage ‘Mentoring Male’ award and developed this into an undergraduate module for sports students, to provide them with skills to go into schools and mentor boys, focusing on their educational attainment and preventing early school leaving further downstream.

The qualification will also prepare mentors to provide support and advice on boys’ emotional and mental health concerns. The course has already run this year at University of Thessaly in Greece. Other countries involved have been Ireland, Spain, Italy and Czech Republic.

When and where?

December 4th 2019, 9.30 – 12.30

The University of Gloucestershire Oxstalls Campus, Business School Lecture Theatre
