Dr Hartill is a reader in the Sociology of Sport at Edge Hill University. His principal area of research is child sexual exploitation and his work has particularly focused on the abuse of boys in sport and the critical study of gender, masculinity and athleticism. He works with organizations such as the European Non-Governmental Sport Organisation (ENGSO), the Rugby Football League, the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU), Survivors Manchester, the NWG Network against Child Sexual Exploitation, and the German Sports University, Cologne. He is currently co-lead on the Voices for Truth and Dignity in Sport project (The VOICE Project) which aims to combat sexual violence through listening to the voices of athletes who have been affected it.
