Historic vote ratifies ‘Male Psychology Section’ of the British Psychological Society

The Men and Boys Coalition was delighted to hear of the ratification of a new ‘Male Psychology Section’ of the British Psychological Society at their annual general meeting on August 30th.

This historic vote, which follows eight years of campaigning by MBC members Dr John Barry and Martin Seager, should provide the framework for a long overdue research network on men’s issues to take shape; one which is embedded within the academic landscape of the UK, and beyond. The new ‘Male Psychology Section’ joins the women’s section of the BPS that has been in place since 1988.

It is our hope that this new section will facilitate crucial research in many areas affecting the lives of men and boys, including under-achievement in education, male mental health and suicide, marginalised men, men as victim-survivors, and men as parents.

Huge congratulations to our colleagues Dr John Barry and Martin Seager for their tireless compaigning on this vital issue and for achieving this fantastic outcome!
